Working Roadtrip

Racine, WI
Arriving at Racine, Wisconsin

I take road trips a small number of times each year for my job. A customer is really in a tight spot or needs special handling for the materials being shipped to call us and pay our rates for these multi-hundred mile treks.

Today the drive takes me to Racine, Wisconsin, which is just south of Milwaukee. I made the pick up at noon on Saturday and held it until today to deliver it at 10:00 PM. The factory was closed for Labor Day until the night shift came on duty.

Vox was my original blog and has material back to March of 2008. WordPress and Blogspot go back to February and March of 2009. They are virtually the same concerning the article that I write. I wanted to make the articles available to people in whichever blog host that they are currently using to make it easier to leave comments. There are differences between the sites for other uploads, widgets and feeds.

The prayer blog on the site of my home church was started in January of 2009. I became the Prayer Director for our congregation and I post on the site concerning prayer and testimonies.

The Forum site was my very first venture into the blogging venue as I began documenting some things I was going through as well as looking for a place to start laying out my spiritual beliefs. I am amazed at the number of viewings things get there, including my sermon notes from my near weekly preaching at Comforts of Home.

Following are some of the most recent blogs.

Another Sign of the Times

Independence Day is to celebrate our country's independence from England. Events on July 4, 2010, brought into focus once again how times are changing as individual desires are being declared by actions to be more important than societal order or society at large. This appears to be the result of lax parenting and the now commonplace moral relativism. I commented to my wife that the scary part is that the people who are acting out this behavior are also raising the next generation. What can we expect but more societal anarchy in the future?

Memorial Day

It seems odd, that on what was formerly Decoration Day, to hear the greeting Happy Memorial Day! I think that the day, as with most holidays in this country, has had its meaning lost in the sands of time. National holidays are now considered days off from work rather than times of remembrance. Memorial Day has become a three day weekend for travel, picnics or the summer yard project. There is nothing wrong with those things and I am no different in how I view plans for the long weekends.

The Unending Recession

The recession will, in my opinion, continue on for the foreseeable future. I'm talking years, not months as the "green chutes" seeing folks would have you believe. The work that springs up is short lived as money is being tightly held in most sectors. Wall Street numbers appear to be mainly investing firms movement and not the needed move of individual investors getting back in the game. The problem is the pipeline. Employers see sparse work and nothing coming down the line behind it. This lack of confidence prevents the rehiring of laid off workers even if the occasional overtime shifts are needed to handle an uptick in business. There is also a resistance for entrepreneurs to expand businesses that were started within the past few years. Where is their reasonable certainty for return on investment? The health care debate also puts the brakes on growth as small and midsized companies hear nightmare scenarios of what it could cost them to do business.

Mercy Me in concert at the 2010 Minnesota State Fair. The song, Move, is from their new CD, The Generous Mr. Lovewell. I wish that the audio on my camera was better because it was a pretty neat song. This short clip gives the flavor for the song.

A robotic display that came upon us as we were roaming the fair grounds. We found it fairly entertaining. More at http://www.rock-itrobot.com/
  • Music In The Park 081510.AVI
We heard the music coming from the park about 4 blocks away and walked up there to check it out. I thought of our worship band who likes to jam and how they might enjoy a crack at an evening gig here. So Bruce, here it is. Contact the Anoka parks and rec and see how you can get on the list for a 7-8PM Sunday evening up here. We could start it out with a picnic and then get the gear unloaded and set up.
  • Stormy Ride Home
The ride home from Target Field was adventurous with Tornadoes in the area, 70MPH straight line winds and torrential rain fall with standing water on the roads.
