An Angel Story

Do you believe that you have ever  encountered an angel in your daily life? Angels are servants of God that do His will in ministering to Him and to His followers. Angels do what God commands when and how He wants them to do it. The bible is filled with stories of angels delivering messages, offering encouragement and defending men and women of God. The bible teaches that they also do it at times without people even being aware of it. Here is one of my experiences that could have possibly been an angelic encounter.

I believe the year was 1986, sometime around 15 months after my salvation experience. I was working in sales for a company in Golden Valley and had just left the office to visit a client on a sales call.

I began heading west on Medicine Lake Road. I had crossed over Winnetka Ave heading to Hwy 169, I believe there is roughly one half mile between the two roadways. About two blocks after I crossed Winnetka, I spotted a man hitch hiking. For some reason I felt a strong urge to pick him up, but I passed by. I still felt I had to pick him up so I went around the block to pick him up. When I stopped to offer him a ride he got into the car. We said hi to one another. He then immediately looked into the back seat at a Bible I had sitting on the seat. He asked me if I was reading it. I responded, "Yes." He said, "Keep it up."

I then asked him where he was heading and he told me I could let him out at the next corner. I stopped and he got out. I pulled away and looked in my rear view mirror - I saw no one. I did not see him standing at the curb, walking in either direction down the street, or turning up the side street. Could my view of him have been blocked by a tree or something? Yes, it's possible. It bothered me enough to consider going around the blocks again to see where he went. I didn't do it because I had to get to my appointment.

Was he an angel? I can't say for a fact that he was. How many people hitch hike for a ride going four blocks? He appeared to be a healthy young guy that could have easily walked that short distance on the sunny day. That coupled with the brief conversation about my bible and the fact that 28 years later I remember it like it just happened, well, it just makes me wonder. Perhaps it was an encouragement and faith builder that I needed at that time.

Hebrews 13:2 "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it."

You just never know.
